Womrath's Bookstore book club will meet on April 1 at 10:00 AM.  We will be discussing John Burnham Schwartz's fourth novel, "The Commoner".   Schwartz bases his finely wrought novel on the life of Empress Michiko of Japan, the first commoner to marry into the Japanese imperial family. Though Japanese imperial life remains shrouded in mystery, Schwartz teases out the details through extensive research.  Schwartz, whose last novel was Reservation Road, pulls off a grand feat in giving readers a moving dramatization of a cloistered world.

For more information, please call 201-568-8857.  Womrath's is located at 12 Washington St. Tenafly, NJ

Sounds like a great read - I missed the event, but what did everyone think of the book? Is it worth getting?

What is Womrath going to have for your next book club meeting? When is it?

I just visited a shop in Piermont where, of all things, I learned about Annie's Book List - and I read them beginning in 2004 to the present.  Do you have the complete lists available in Womrath's?  When is the next writer's workshop for fall?  Have you scheduled one of Annie's book groups for September?

I have Annie's recommendation list available via email.  If you would like me to email the list, send your request to womraths@gmail.com  Also let me know what year you would like.

The Book club is meeting on September 16th at 10 am at Womrath's.  This month's selection is   "The Secret Scripture" by Sebastian Barry. The latest from Barry (whose A Long Way was shortlisted for the 2005 Booker) pits two contradictory narratives against each other in an attempt to solve the mystery of a 100-year-old mental patient.  As usual the book club book is discounted at Womrath's by 20%.

The writer's workshop will be meeting again starting in September - December.  More details will be made available shortly at www.womraths.com or on our facebook page or on twitter.

In this Writing Workshop we will explore the craft of writing, through experiential exercises that will unlock the heart of creative writing process.  As facilitator of these 6 workshops, Amy will draw on her experience writing and teaching poetry, fiction, personal essay, memoir and other forms of writing to help to awaken and inspire your own voice. You will be encouraged to notice and express the details that make up your inner and outer world, and learn to utilize strategies that will turn your vision into powerful writing. Write in a safe, sharing environment!

Amy Fabrikant- Eagan will facilitate the Writer’s Workshop. She earned her MA from Columbia University’s prestigious teaching program, and has spent the last 25 years teaching literacy and writing curriculum.
